Edison Sault Electric to pass on purchased power savings to customers

Edison Sault Electric Company announced today that it will implement a reduction in its Power Supply Cost Recovery (PSCR) for the last two months of 2009. A typical residential customer using 1,000 kWh a month will see a $6.03 reduction in their electric bill -- an approximate 7% reduction.

The PSCR reflects increases or decreases in the cost of obtaining energy from sources other than Edison Sault’s own generating units.  The most recent forecasts indicate lower purchased power costs through year-end 2009, resulting primarily from lower than projected natural gas costs.

Edison Sault is still experiencing lower-cost hydro generation from its own facilities.  Edison Sault currently uses hydro generation for about 40% of the electricity it sells.  The remaining 60% must be purchased from other outside sources.  As more hydro power is produced, Edison Sault can lessen the amount of electricity purchased from other sources, thereby reducing the cost of electricity to its customers.

Edison Sault engages in electricity generation and distribution to 23,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers in Michigan 's Eastern Upper Peninsula . Edison Sault generates and sells low-cost power from the company's historic hydro plant and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' hydro plant, both located on the St. Marys river system at Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.

Wisconsin Energy Corporation (NYSE: WEC), based in Milwaukee , is one of the nation’s premier energy companies, serving more than 1.1 million electric customers in Wisconsin and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and more than 1 million natural gas customers in Wisconsin. The company’s principal utilities are We Energies and Edison Sault Electric. The company's other major subsidiary, We Power, designs, builds and owns electric generating plants.

Wisconsin Energy Corporation (www.wisconsinenergy.com), a component of the S&P 500, has more than $12 billion of assets, approximately 5,000 employees and 48,000 stockholders of record.
