Reading Your Meter

Customers desiring to read their own meter or to check a bill for accuracy should read their meter as follows:

Stand directly in front of the meter and find the small dials on the face of the meter.  There will be four or five dials indicating electricity usage.

Read the dials in order, STARTING FROM THE RIGHT AND MOVING TO THE LEFT.  Each dial indicates one of the numbers in the correct meter reading.

Read each dial, and write down the number FROM RIGHT TO LEFT.  In most cases, the dial pointer will be between two numbers on the dial.  If this is the case, the correct number being indicated is the LOWER of the two numbers, unless the pointer is between the numbers "9" and "0" in which case the number being indicated is "9".

Once the current meter reading is obtained, according to this procedure, you may determine your usage since the last reading by subtracting the previous meter reading from the reading just obtained.  The difference is the number of billing units or kilowatt hours of electricity which you have used since the last reading.

Examples

Meter Reading: 19379

The correct meter reading is:  19379

Meter Reading: 99950

The correct meter reading is:  99950
